Do they check weight of hand luggage?

It is rare for airlines to weigh your carry on or hand luggage. So long as your bag is not clearly overweight, and you're able to carry it with ease – you shouldn't have any issues with a slightly overweight bag.

What happens if your hand luggage is too heavy?

If your hand luggage is too big or too heavy for you to take onto the aircraft, you may be required to have it placed in the hold. There is likely to be a charge for this, and it will be much more expensive to pay for checking-in luggage at the airport than when you book your flight.

Will my hand luggage be weighed?

How much does my hand luggage weigh?

Carry-on bags must weigh less than 35 pounds and must not exceed 10 inches deep, 16 inches wide and 24 inches high. Bags must fit in the overhead bins. Checked bags must be no longer than 62 linear inches (length + width + depth) and must weigh under 40 pounds.

How often do they weigh hand luggage?

Hand luggage is not usually weighed again after check in, but it can be. Bear in mind some airlines say one bag and they mean one bag. Everything you buy after check in has to go into that bag.

How can I avoid carry-on weight?

Wear some shorts or pants that have a lot of pockets, or carry your jacket separate to the bag (my favorite). Doing this will let you put your heavy items in various compartments and pockets, which will avoid any problems if you get weighed.
