It is possible to be victimized by scammers/con artist but violent crime against tourist is not common for those that stick to doing the usual tourist things.

Yes Sandals properties are very well gated and secure. I am sure someone who had stayed at SGR can elaborate further on the security posted there but I can at least vouch for Sandals Royal Caribbean. The resort was gated with security posted at the gate as well as throughout the resort.
