Is the US building bullet trains?
Amtrak has plan to add 100 miles of track capable of hosting bullet trains by 2035. So, even with the addition of 28 high-speed trains purchased in 2016 with $2.45 billion, it won't be until 2035 that even 30 percent of the route offers up speeds worth talking about.
Why can’t California build high-speed rail?
Not just California, but anywhere: nobody wants to spend the money to get it done. Bullet trains require their own dedicated track – they can't share the same track “ordinary” trains use. Buying land for the tracks would be very expensive, especially in populated areas like LA or SF, where land values are very high.
