Too Touristy and Difficult to IntegrateA large number of people visit the island every year. Due to this, you'll often be treated as a tourist, even though you live here. It's also very difficult to make friends with locals and feel like at home.
Are there snakes on Tenerife?
Plenty of lizards, skinks and geckos, but these are inoffensive. There are no snakes indigenous to Tenerife, however the Canary Islands faced an issue few years ago with California king snakes that were introduced on the islands by someone as a pet, but ran away into the wild and reproduced.
Is the crime rate high in Tenerife?
The crime rate in Tenerife as an island is far less than most cities ,towns and villages in the UK . It gets reported on here to make people aware rather than scare anyone . Most think it cant/wont happen whilst on holiday and that's when they let their guards down ,sadly .
