Denia is much more of a holiday town -very relaxing and loads of bars and restaurants + good shopping. I think for a summer holiday I would definitely recommend Denia over Alicante!

I wouldn't recommend Calpe, It's too built up for my liking. I like Denia for the day or a night out in different reataurants but is too much of a working town and much, much bigger than Javea. A close second to Javea for me would be Moraira. All been said by DougieWoogie.

Moraira & Javea are both nice, Moraira being smaller and the beaches not as big as Javea. There are plenty bars/restaurants along the Arenal (beach) in Javea but gets very busy. It also has an old town as well that is very Spanish.
