How long is the Chunnel ride?
Passengers can travel either by ordinary rail coach or within their own motor vehicles, which are loaded onto special railcars. Trains can travel through the tunnel at speeds as high as 160 km (100 miles) per hour; the trip takes about 35 minutes.
How far underwater is the Chunnel?
At its deepest, the tunnel is 75 metres (246 feet) below the sea level. That's the same as 107 baguettes balancing on top of each other. The English Channel is much deeper than the tunnel, with its deepest point measuring 175 meters (574 feet) below sea level.

We provide award-winning toilet facilities – including disabled toilet facilities – in our passenger terminal buildings which we recommend all passengers take advantage of before travelling.
Do you sit in your car on the Eurotunnel?
Depending on the height of your car, you will need to follow signs for single-deck boarding or double-deck boarding (find out more here). You and your pets stay in your vehicle throughout the journey – sit back and relax, it only takes 35 minutes to cross.

The Eurotunnel car train service runs between Folkestone and Calais via the channel tunnel in just 35 minutes. Once onboard passengers stay with their vehicle throughout the channel tunnel crossing in bright, air-conditioned carriages. You can sit back and relax, or get out and stretch your legs.
